BSkyB to Launch Internet TV
LONDON—Pay-TV giant British Sky Broadcasting Group PLC announced plans for an Internet movie-streaming service in the U.K., a swift effort to undercut Netflix Inc.’s rollout of a similar service in Britain that began three weeks ago.
BSkyB, a satellite-TV service with more than 10.4 million customers in the U.K., already buys the rights to premiere most major Hollywood films for the first time on British television after the pictures leave the box office. They air on Sky Movies, a premium channel package that attracts roughly half of BSkyB’s customer base.
